Simply put, health insurance is protection against major medical costs. A health insurance policy is a contract between an insurer and an individual, in which the insurer agrees to provide benefits for a price (the premium). Depending on your plan, deductible, etc., you can decide what is best for you and your family.
The dependent rate is usually quite high on group insurance; you will want to consider moving dependents to their own individual policy, as coverage may be matched (except for maternity benefits) for much lower premium.
